While we are all undoubtedly focusing on the holidays (and we at the GRA Board wish every one of you and yours a safe and happy time these next few weeks), we want to remind you that important meetings are on the calendar at the City. In particular, the Planning Commission has been hearing significant and far-reaching changes to the City's current Zoning Code which is now thirty or so years old. While this is eye-glazing and wonky stuff, the Zoning Code is a critical set of rules and regulations that affect every Alhambran - whether you are a resident home-owner, renter, business, or land-owner. Every aspect of what makes the City livable, functional, and workable is in this code. Parking, noise, adding to or remodeling your home or apartment, how your neighboring property can or cannot be developed and how that may affect where you stay, signage for your business - are just a few examples of City living that will be affected for good or bad.

We ask that you pay close attention, starting with joining the virtual Planning Commission meeting that will be held on Monday, December 19 at 7 PM via Zoom. It is easy to listen in, make public comments, and make your voices heard. Please do so. The City does require that you register for the meeting. We have copied the City's instructions below.

Addressing the Planning Commission:

Via Zoom or Telephone: “Raise your hand” - Members of the public may speak by using the “Raise Hand” function during the public comments portion, if on Zoom or telephone. Staff will unmute speakers participating via Zoom or telephone and announce your name when it is your time to speak.

Remarks are limited to 5 minutes; however, the presiding officer may either extend or reduce the maximum time to such period of time as the Commission may determine.

Any member of the public who needs accommodations or who needs their comments translated should email or call the Community Development Department at [email protected] or (626) 570-5034. All requests for accommodations or translation services shall be made by 4 p.m. the Thursday prior to the Planning Commission meeting. If accommodation or translation is not requested by 4 p.m. the Thursday prior to the Planning Commission meeting, staff will try to accommodate the request to the best of their efforts to provide as much accessibility as possible while also maintaining public safety. Given the challenges of teleconference and video conference meetings, all participants are encouraged to email their comments prior to the beginning of the meeting, but are not required to do so.
